It's that time of the year. Cold, wet, and generally unpleasant. I woke up today packing my things looking out through the window. The first thing I saw was some frost. The signs of winter are starting already. I don't think I am the only one who is not looking forward to winter, specially after how bad last year was.
When I was young I loved winter. I always woke up early to play in the snow. My brother and I always had snowball fights and built small forts. Now instead we sit inside, watch the snow slowly fall. I wish I could skip forward a couple of months until winter is over.
Hopefully this year won't be to bad. I have a bad feeling that it will though. Maybe I can move to florida?
How much money would you pay to make a weapon in a game look cool? Some people pay up to 800 dollars. There is this game called Counter Strike Global Offensive where people actually buy colored "skins" for weapons so their weapons look cooler. There have been people that bought these skins for 800 dollars just because they want to show off. CSGO has its own market currency. Most skins you compare to "Keys". One key is worth 2.50 Dollars. If you are buying a skin with keys you evaluate how much the skins are worth and how many keys you use to buy it. You can also use steam wallet currency. Steam has its own little bank system where you can store money. The only thing you can spend the money on is games that use steam. So even if most people don't know it, the "gaming" community has a world of nerds with their own economy system.
The people reading this blog post are probably thinking to themselves that you cannot make any real money on games. I want to point out a guy who played a game called Entropia universe. In this game you build and explore online. This man built a castle where you can trade objects in the game. This castle was one of the first of its kind and it became so well known that the owner was making real money in it. Then he started to sell off parts his castle to other people, in total he made 650 thousand dollars. He made more than most Americans make in a year from a game! He still today makes 65 thousand dollars per year and he got recruited by a real life entrepreneur who is funding him to build another castle in this game.
Most people are probably feeling a bit dumbstruck right now. There are a big number of people who are working hard every day to afford the cost of cars, houses and more. Then there is a man, out of the blue, building houses in a virtual world who made over half a million dollars playing a game. Well, I know what I want to do when I grow up (not really :)).
The other day I was sitting on my deck watching my dog and my two neighbor's dogs play. I sat there for probably twenty minutes watching them run up and down my backyard jumping around and growling in a friendly manner. Then I saw them barking at each other. I thought that they were going to fight but they never hurt each other. It seemed as they were establishing dominance.
I had heard about how dogs and wolves can create a little pact where they figure out who is the leader, who is the beta dog, and who is the delta dog. My dog and the neighbor's dogs were doing this. My dog seemed to be in a little fight against the older of the other two dogs. They were jumping in an aggressive manner (not too aggressive) on top of each other to show who was boss. At one point my dog rolled over and laid on his back. I later searched this up and it turns out that if a dog or a wolf does that it is the signal to the other dog that they are under them in the leadership chain. Now the older dog was jumping and barking at the other younger dog. Instantly the younger dog also rolled on its back and laid there for a little while.
The older dog then walked away while my dog started to play with the younger dog again, this time differently. My dog never let the younger dog get a hold of the rubber toy he was playing with. It seemed that my dog felt that he was above the younger dog. At one point the younger dog snatched the toy and tried to run away with it. It turned out my dog was faster and the second he caught up with the younger dog he took the toy. I came to the conclusion that my dog felt that the younger dog did not deserve the toy because he was under him in the chain.
I found this peculiar that even with out speech they were able to understand each other and had their own "government system" running. Maybe our government can learn from these dogs? (Just kidding)
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ are the new big things. Everyone is talking about the iPhone 6 and it is making me crazy! The iPhone 6 plus is huge! It is basically an iPad mini. It is not a phone if you can't fit it in your pocket! For some reason people like phones that don't even look like phones. A lot of new phones have started to get bigger screens, like the Galaxy note. The iPhone 6+ has an even bigger screen and with its new technology with Siri and IOS 8 it seems to be getting a little out of hand.
It could be just me but these new phones that are coming out like the samsung 4K display phone is just not a phone anymore. Did you know that the iPhone 4s which is now out dated has more processing power than the Apollo space craft! Here are some simple numbers I found online:
Apollo space craft:
Dimensions: 24 x 12.5 x 6.5 inches
Weight: 70 pounds
Processor speed: 1 MHz
Memory: 2,048 words (32,768 bits or roughly 4kB)
Display: seven-segment numeric
Power consumption: 55 watts
Price: $150,000 (est.)
Apple iPhone 4S
Data from Apple, phonearena.com, and chipdesignmag.com.
Dimensions: 4.5 x 2.31 x 0.37 inches
Weight: 4.9 ounces
Processor speed: 800 MHz, dual core
Memory: 512 MB of RAM, built in storage of 16, 32, or 64 GB
Display: 3.5 inches, full color, 649 x 960 pixels
Power consumption: 0.7 to 1.5 watts
Price: starting at $199 (with 2-year contract)
Now some new phones have up to 8x the amount of memory that the iPhone 4s has and the phones today weigh less and has double the processor speed, so they have even more powerful. We landed on the moon with an early computer system that today would not be able to sell for one dollar!
Phones are really changing. Soon a phone will probably have the same power as a powerful desktop computer. Phones will also get better screens. This world is getting a bit to insane for me. I'm out!
Fish are simple minded creatures, but need complex care taking. I recently bought some fish. I thought it would be an easy process; plug in the aquarium and then put in the fish. It was the exact opposite of what I thought. Did you know that some fish can't live in a small space? They are fish! What does it mean that they need at least 10 gallons of water to swim in? I am not even sure if fish are conscious, never the less care how much space they can swim in. Another problem I have noticed; feeding them. I am not sure when they are hungry. Sometimes I put in food and they eat it, sometimes they don't. There is no way of knowing if they are starving or full. How can fish be so difficult? I also have to clean the tank because it gets dirty. That makes me think of how they even survive in the wild. Water in the ocean and lakes is usually dirtier than mine. So why do they care about a little bit of dirt in the tank?
There are multiple different types of fish. I looked up some facts about fish and it turns out that some fish don't like each other. How picky can they be! I can't believe that I also have to heat it to their liking.
So it turns out that fish are not as simple as I thought. Maybe I should have gotten another dog or cat. *Sigh* Have to end this here because I think my catfish is being bullied by my other fish. I need to teach them manners.
